What makes the Sea Cliff Village Library so special is that when a person walks through the front doors, their expectation of what they think they will find is totally upended. We cannot hide that we are a small library, but inside our building, the depth of our collection is pretty remarkable. Not only do we have the latest works, but a person will find classic literature, art books, and other unexpected titles on the shelves, and it is not limited to print materials. Our mission is to provide our community with a sense of possibilities of going beyond our four walls, and I have tried to expand the notion of what a library could be to our patrons. The building, its past, and its setting are a perfect harmony of form and function. That is what makes Sea Cliff Library special.
Camille Purcell, Library Director
The Sea Cliff Village Library is located in a beautiful village on the water facing the Long Island Sound. The village of Sea Cliff is a unique place where you can see cars with bumper stickers that say “Keep Sea Cliff Weird”.
The library was established in 1915. It occupied the building that is across the street from the current location which now serves as a children’s library. The current library occupies a building that was originally a Methodist Church built in 1914. The library is connected with the village hall and the Sea Cliff Village Museum.
