Cold Spring Harbor Library serves the informational, cultural, educational and recreational needs of our community. We strive to create a welcoming environment and provide high quality resources and programs for all ages. Our patrons can also enjoy spectacular views from our porch overlooking Long Island Sound.
Roger Podell, Library Director
The Cold Spring Harbor Library and Environmental Center is beautiful. It is nestled on a hill in a gorgeous location overlooking Oyster Bay and is located within the Cold Spring Harbor State Park. I have visited this library a number of times and it is always a joy to see the fireplace and the view of Oyster Bay. I have walked the trails in Cold Spring Harbor State Park which makes this also a really unique site connecting the library to its natural surroundings.
The following description is from the about the library page. “The Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center was first organized in 1886 by a group of local philanthropists. The Library was housed at the Cutting House and consisted of a small collection of books. In 1899 the Cold Spring Harbor Village Improvement Society was founded (to improve the living conditions of the village) and eventually took over the running of the library in 1913….In 2000, the library entered into an agreement with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation for a long-term lease of five-acres of the newly created Cold Spring Harbor State Park. On August 9, 2006, the library moved into its current home.”
