The Blackstone Library is an open and engaging place where patrons can learn, grow, and socialize. Through our collection and programming, Blackstone Library staff can be of help to patrons in an equitable manner as all library programs are free and anyone may sign up for a program. The library is the heart of the community.
Lisa Cheever, Library Director
I visited the Blackstone Public Library because I had worked with the director in a previous position and had lived in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island. I find it has beautiful architecture. I love the idea that the library also serves as a reminder of an old mill town and a community that had to transition from a rural to a suburban community between Worcester and Providence.
The Blackstone River nestles the Blackstone Public Library on the border with Rhode Island. The library was founded on July 20, 1889. The current building was opened on June 13, 2004. The building design is an homage to the history of the Blackstone Valley as the birthplace of the American Industrial Revolution. The architectural design evokes the mill buildings of New England.
